VENICE ON THE CREEK
June 2–August 31, 2006:
In Lower Downtown Denver, set sail on an authentic punt ride — similar to an Italian gondola — along Cherry Creek and learn more about the history of the area. Propelled and steered by a pole operator, the boats hold up to six people (adults and children) and offers both one-way and round-trips during the day, and candle-lit trips at night. Venice on the Creek operates the only known punts in the United States, with vessels built and imported from Cambridge, England.
80th ANNUAL ROOF TOP RODEO
July 11–16, 2006:
Estes Park celebrates its rich ranching history during this annual community event. Saddle up as professional cowboys and hand-picked livestock compete nightly during bronc riding, steer wrestling, calf roping, bareback riding, barrel racing and bull riding events. The excitement starts with a traditional Western parade on Tuesday, July 11th, and herds of marching bands, groups on horseback, floats, classic cars and rodeo royalty.
OPENING OF 100-YEAR-OLD PIKE TIME CAPSULE
July 15, 2006:
As part of the Zebulon Pike Bicentennial, the Colorado Springs Pioneer Museum invites the public to Antlers Park where officials will unearth a time capsule originally buried during the Pike Centennial in 1906. The Colorado Springs Conservatory and the Colorado Springs Choral will serenade the crowd during the festivities as another time capsule is created and buried.
3rd ANNUAL STEAMBOAT WINE FESTIVAL
August 3–6, 2006:
Celebrate the senses in Steamboat Springs as you stroll through downtown sampling more than 400 wines paired with exquisite foods and beautiful mountain scenery. Raise your glass to wine seminars, gourmet dinners and a live auction robust with fabulous artwork.
30th ANNUAL TELLURIDE JAZZ CELEBRATION
August 3–6, 2006:
Strike a chord in Telluride and harmonize in the celebration as this mountainous paradise as music goers from near and far honor 30 years of jazz with aficionados, musical favorites, bluebird skies, high notes and high altitude.
CRIPPLE CREEK ARTS FESTIVAL
August 12–13, 2006:
Come one, come all to historic Cripple Creek for a weekend celebration of local artesian flare and handcrafted masterpieces. Though gold was first discovered here in 1890, now is your chance to discover jewelry, glass sculptures, and wooden and antique furniture lined along Bennett Avenue, the town's main street. |
